Wellbeing Hub – Social Event June 2019

Come along to our FREE social event at the UK Shaolin Temple on Tuesday 4th June 2019 from 5:30pm – 6:30pm and join our Wellbeing Hub Social Event.

This event is scheduled on a monthly basis and focusses on a different aspect of wellbeing every month.

In March the social event covered the topic “eat well” and in April we looked at “family, friends and relationships” and their benefits on our wellbeing. In this month’s topic, we will conclude the spring theme with “nature” and how nature is good for us.

There will be some short meditation and Qi Gong exercises and some talk about May’s topic. We will provide tea, biscuits and a pleasant, comfortable environment.

How to Keep Healthy and Joyful During Spring

Move: The Liver needs movement and so do you; so get outside and take long walks in nature, observe the changes going on all around you, and invite change in. Join an exercise or yoga class.

Recreate Order Out of Chaos: Go through your home and office and get rid of stuff that you donʼt need; have a garage sale or give it away and create the space for the new to come in. Allow new things into your life. Imagine what you would like to create in your life and find ways to make plans to actuate these dreams.

As Without, So Within: Spring is the time to start a healthier diet and flush out the toxins so that the Liver can do its job more effectively. Begin by eliminating foods that stress the Liver, such as fried or very fatty foods. Sugar and white flour should be eliminated or minimized, and foods with chemical preservatives and food colouring should be avoided. Donʼt overeat. Try to eat slowly, savouring the flavours. Enjoy the abundance of fresh foods that are beginning to appear in the markets.

Let Go of Old Resentments and Start Fresh: Grudges and resentments are indigestible and can do damage to the Liver energy. Practice forgiveness.
Take a Risk and Try Something New: Think of what you would like to try, even if it seems silly or scary. The small delicate sprout would never know its potential if it stayed safe within its seed… begin sprouting and be playful.

Hydrate Your Body: Drink eight to ten 8 oz. glasses of water daily. Use filtered water, not carbonated. Adding some lemon juice gives it a nice taste, and lemon nourishes the Liver.

What is Qi Gong

Qi Gong (Chi Kung) is a gentle form of exercise combining slow movements with breathing techniques and mindful-awareness. These three aspects, when combined together, create a catalyst in the body for healing and wellness. In China it is used as relief and prevention for many chronic health conditions.

The practice of Qi Gong can help the body and mind in many ways by combining exercises that focus on mental, emotional and physical wellbeing.

It is effective in managing stress and mental discomfort that can come in many forms including depression, confusion and anxiety. These conditions can occur when the body is out of balance and or the body’s energy is either, depleted, unregulated, or displaced. Qi gong is a simple and effective method that can help to restore the body’s natural balance.

The movements are simple and easy to learn and practice. All exercises can be done by anyone either standing or seated.
